WCL cuts blockade length by 20% on Severn Tunnel Maintenance project

Projects

Last month, WCL staff Jonathan Davies and Jasvinder Kaur wrapped up their work on Network Rail’s blockade of the Severn Tunnel for vital maintenance works. Working as Senior Project Manager and Assistant Project Manager, Jon and Jas oversaw work package integration and stakeholder collaboration from January to July 2025.

Their efforts over the last 6-7 months have allowed crucial maintenance works to go ahead efficiently, cutting the blockade length by 20% through their proactive work to align stakeholders, dependencies and key deliverables.

Jonathan Davies, Senior Project Manager, reflected: “Working with a highly skilled set of railway professionals while leading the capital delivery element, in extremely tight timelines, to a successful conclusion, has been the most satisfying project of my career.”

He was supported by recent addition to the WCL team Jasvinder Kaur, Assistant Project Manager. This was a great opportunity to get big project experience early in her career, enabled by WCL Infrastructure’s innovative ‘Right Track’ programme. She reflected:

“Building working relationships with colleagues has been crucial in getting work done, collating information and progressing the project.

“I came onto the project with no knowledge of the railway, so I’m very proud of myself being able to pick things up quickly. I’m so pleased to have had such a fantastic project for hands-on learning so early in my career.”
